3 Things to Avoid When Practicing a Full Moon Ritual

Hello fellow Moon gazer,

Do you ever look up at the sky during a Full Moon and feel it’s pull? Like magic, the presence of a Full Moon invokes the feelings of expansiveness and release. It’s a gentle time to look inward and dissolve those parts of ourselves that we no longer want or need plus celebrate our accomplishments so far.

There are so many powerful ways you can honour yourself during the Full Moon and work with her energy (check out my blog ‘Full Moon Rituals – 11 Easy Ways to Harness her Magic to Heal, Manifest and Grow’) but there are a few ‘rules’ to keep in mind if you’re thinking about doing your very own moon ritual. Knowing these rules can help you maximise the benefits of your ritual – ensuring that you maintain a sense of balance and ease as you co-create a soulful life.

So without further ado, here are my top 3 rules…..or things to avoid….

Rule #1. Don’t rush to start something new:

I know it’s tempting to start new things when the Full Moon arrives and that’s likely because the energy naturally improves the mood and boosts enthusiasm. However, it’s probably not the wisest thing to do. Why? Because the Full Moon’s energy is very much based on the practice of completion. It’s a little like nurturing a seed – you plant the seed during the New Moon and then harvest the fruits from the grown seed during the Full Moon.

This is why it’s better to enjoy the present moment instead and allow the manifestational energy build upon itself as it reaches the New Moon phase roughly 2 weeks after the Full Moon. During the 2 week period, you’ll get a chance to become incredibly clear on what you’re wanting to birth during the New Moon and potential ways of how you may go about doing it.

Rule #2. Don’t overreact:

Ever watched a horror movie where the actors / actresses experience psychotic episodes purely because it’s the full moon? It seems like an overreaction doesn't it, and while the overreaction might be true, the Full moon can certainly make our emotions run high – some feel this more than others but even still, we all go through a very similar process. This means that you might be feeling a little more sensitive than normal toward situations that would normally not bother you (or maybe they do but it’s hard to hide your emotions during a Full Moon).

So keep this in mind during the Full Moon phase. Try not to overreact over trivial things. Instead take a moment, breathe deeply, and remind yourself that this too shall pass. The Full Moon offers ample opportunity to work through your emotions and thoughts instead of acting on them impulsively.

Rule #3. Avoid making any rash decisions

This rule is similar to rule #1 – because the Full Moon can bring about an emotional charge and stir things up that you mightn’t have realised were even there (or had been trying to ignore), it can be tempting to make decisions on impulse. Sure, these decisions might be great ideas and work in your favour, but then they might be a complete disaster too – leaving you to regret them soon after the Full Moon.

So, the best thing to do is slow things down and process what you’re thinking about doing before actually doing it. There’s no harm in being patient because the reality is, you’ll have time on your side, as opposed to trying to deal with the consequences of an unfortunate decision later on.

As long as you keep in mind these 3 valuable rules, then I have no doubt you’ll experience such a magical and transformative time working with the Full Moon.

So now that you know what the 3 valuable rules are, you may just want to practice your very own Full Moon ritual!
